The trucking segment includes for-hire carriers (truckload and less-than-truckload), with some discussion of private carriage. The railroads segment includes trunk lines, regional lines, and shortlines. The air freight segment includes air freight carriers, or integrators (companies controlling both ground and air transport of the cargo) and forwarders (companies that consolidate small shipments and arrange for their transport by others).
